Farmers feed the City

It was a gorgeous late summer night to be out at the Evergreen Brickworks for "Farmers feed the city. IT was a night curated by Food Network chef and Belong Catering owner, Brad Long featuring the wines of Southbrook Vineyards and Beers from Muskoka Breweries.

Versaille on calle ocho- This is Miami

Versaille is like a staple for authentic Cuban cuisine.  It is a Miami destination off of calle ocho (you know the Pitbull song that made that street famous.. uno, dos, tres, quartro.. you know you want me.. )
It's packed full with locals, resembles a fortress on the outside and a very basic bare bones, mom and pop style shoppe with a dining area, a cafe walk up area and a bakery.  The main dialect is espanol but don't worry, the host and servers have a limited understanding of English and can definitely point you in the right direction.

Bohmers

The trendy Ossington strip is home to many of my favourite restaurants including Foxley, Delux, Pizza Libretto and now Bohmers.  This 5000 sq feet old open gallery-esque space is the newest project for chef Paul Bohmer formerly of the Rosewater Supper club.  It has taken the chef/owner over a year for this project to become a reality as he was the last to put in his application for a liquor licence application to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario before the Ossington bylaw to ban the development of new bars/restos was put in place.

I've fallen for the Local Kitchen and Wine Bar!

The Local Kitchen not to be mistook as the pub around the corner on Roncevalles or the restaurant on the Danforth  was celebrated as one of the hottest new restaurants for 2009. And it definitely lives up to it's reputation - I will possibly go on record to say it has been one of my favourite places that I've tried so far!

My heart BEETS ...

Located in the Junction and hidden inside a historical TD bank building where the ATMs still function, is the Beet Organic Cafe.  It felt like I was walking to a secret restaurant upon entering the Beet.  I had the pleasure of meeting the woman behind the restaurant - Michelle Vella and was so impressed with her passion and commitment.  The restaurant's entire philosophy is based on sustainability, local and organic.

Earth

There's a new Rosedale restaurant on the block occupying the troubled 1055 Yonge address and it may have a chance for longevity.
It's Ed Ho's newest project - the owner behind Globe Bistro on the Danforth and he brings forth his principals of eating local and thinking global into this posh space.  Having been a diner at the previous restaurant - it was a healthy change with a steady flow of patrons and even some local star power as Eugene Levy and a big group were occupying the best seats in the house - at the front of the restaurant.

Buddha Dog

Tonya, Lily and I decided to do a lunch outing to Buddha Dog - it's in the heart of Roncesvalles but a little off the beaten path for to hit main stream foodie traffic so for us it was a 10 minute drive away from our office. The restaurant reminds me of a cozy cottage feel with long wood bar and chalk boards with maps drawn by the owner Andrew - with where all the ingredients are sourced from.
