Grapefruit Mooning

Grapefruit Moon is a local Annex gem for brunch.  However it's usually crowded with line ups with local non pretentious folk just looking for a casual brunch.  Grapefruit moon is an understated place -like a shabby chique garage feel.  They have room for only 25 at the low-slung tables lining the wall and corners of the room with 6 more seats at the kitchen counter. Antique bikes, photos and artwork are showcased on the walls.

Halloweening Cajun styles

In our costumes ready for Halloween - a bunch of friends went to Southern Accent for a Halloween feast. We booked their 'boo' room which was a private 10 person room with a coat check and had paintings of ghosts around it. Our informative and tolerant server dressed as a tree was great and helpful with suggestions, and served up all our demands.

Butlers Pantry

This humble spot has been a favourite of mine for years and I was very sad when their Queen St West location as it was a regular dining spot for me. It's cozy for brunch and a great date place or to have a casual dinner with good friends. It's hardwood interior and booths make the place warm and inviting.
Their menu is eclectic with international fare with their twist of westernized comfort and the dishes are soothing and the ingredients feel like they come out of their own pantry.

The Annex Live

This entire summer, my friends Ben and Rob with their band mates have been hosting a Wednesday night folk night featuring bands (Small Town Treason and the United Empire Loyalists) and their guest performers. Last night was the final one of the season and wanted to give them huge props as it was a big success for them. I also wanted to say that last night's finale show featured Alison Jutzi who dazzled us all with her talented vocals and comedic songs!

Amazing Organic Raw food- Live it up!

Organic and Raw foods seem to scare some people as they may have an impression that it's too healthy, tasteless, uncooked and cold. My biggest pet peeve is people who knock things before they try it! Raw food means that no ingredients are heated to over 116F (I think). Food should only be processed by your body.
So when my friend Jen suggested we try Live Organic Food bar, I was totally up for trying a new and healthy experience and I have to say that this place is a GEM! It's sooo good. Nothing like that Sex in the City episode where Samantha goes to tolerate the raw food to get the Absolute Hunk.
