Mirto

One of my last holiday lunches with my workplace family, we decided to go to Mirto. Located on Toronto Street in a restored historic building with very high ceilings and a Victorian interior, Mirto provides a welcoming and comforting place for folks to dine. There are 2 large rooms and one room can be used as a private dining area.

Antonio, one of the co-owners, greeted us with gusto, he is one of my colleagues’ hubby. Throughout the walls on the restaurant, patrons may notice signatures of Toronto celebrities like sport stars Kelly Gruber and Cito Gaston and even the Queen of the Nile has signed the walls of the resto.

Their menu specializes in blended Italian comfort cooking with pastas, pizzas, entrees and chef specials of the day. Their freshly baked foccacia bread was very well received at the table as we were hungry.

Each of us ordered different pastas or pizzas for the day with appetizers ranging from shrimp, arugula salad and minestrone soup.

The namesake pizza and pasta were highly recommended. The pizza had italian saussage, bacon, tomato sauce which was thoroughly enjoyed by 2 of our party.  I had the Mirto pasta which came with lean ground pork in a bolognese sauce.  It was a perfect meal for a very chilly day outside.

There was a pasta of the day that reminded me of a carbonara as it was egg Tagliatelle  with Porketta in a pernod cream sauce which  my colleague Lily enjoyed it thoroughly. There was a fish of the day – Tilapia which was prepared nicely. One colleague enjoyed her linguine, shrimp, pesto and cream sauce pasta and another with her vegetarian pasta which had a mix of seasonal veg in tomato sauce. The portions were healthy and most of us finished and were going back to the office with food comas!

One of the highlights was the dessert platter that was presented to us – it came with their light and delicious Tiramisu, white chocolate mousse cake and a chocolate Mars bar cake. Deliciouso.
