It wasn't until my last ultimate frisbee game had finished and my team mates and I were out for beers that I was educated on an important piece of information.
Cottage Pie- is English meat pie that is topped off with mashed potatoes made with ground beef. The term started to be used in the early 1700s according to Wikipedia, when the potato was being introduced as an edible crop affordable for the poor. Cottage pie is often erroneously referred to as Shepherd's Pie. Correctly Shepherd's Pie should be used only when the meat used in the pie is lamb as Shepherd's only concerned themselves with this herding sheep versus cattle.
A huge thank you to Lisa Zelter for bringing this to my attention!
